Bobby Thomson

 Bobby Thomson

Inducted in 2003

Born in Glasgow in 1923, Thomson moved to the US at the age of two. His Major League baseball career lasted from 1946 to 1960. The highlight came on October 3, 1951, when 'The Staten Island Scot' hit baseball's most famous home run, now enshrined in history as the 'shot heard round the world.' His last-gasp effort gave the New York Giants a 5-4 win over the Brooklyn Dodgers, completing their months-long comeback and winning them the National League pennant. The subsequent World Series, usually an event that enthralls the entire country, was rather an anticlimax.

  • Voted an All Star in 1948, 1949 and 1952
