Shaw was Scotland's most successful tennis player. She reached the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon ladies' singles of 1970 and 1971. In 1972, she reached the semi-finals of the ladies' doubles at Wimbledon, playing with another Scot, Joyce Williams. Shaw played twice in the Australian Open semi-finals and reached the finals of both the ladies doubles and the mixed doubles of the French Championships.
